Mentor Appreciation 2024
Mentorship has been the foundation of THRU Project’s programs since our inception. It is also our largest program serving 289 young adults and mentors in 2023. Every other program we’ve created to support young adults aging out of foster care was born from what we learned through the mentorship program.
THRU Project’s Foster Connections program (providing free cell phones and data plans to our participants) was created as a direct response to the communication barriers we witnessed between mentors and mentees. Our Pass to Success program (providing free bus passes) came about to address transportation barriers our young adults faced in meeting their mentors as well as teachers, service providers and members of their supportive network. THRU Talks exists because mentors wanted to see their mentees provided with more life skills. And so on.
No matter how much THRU Project grows in our next decade of service, the Mentorship Program will always be the most fundamental part of what we do. This is why our mentors are so incredibly important! We could not provide the support our young people need without this network of generous, civic-minded people giving of their time and talent.
So, on February 15, we took our mentors and monthly donors out to dinner! Alamo Cafe played host to our group serving up delicious Mexican fare. Conversation flowed freely as THRU Project program staff members got some valuable face time with these dedicated mentors. Mentors always have access to program staff to discuss any questions they may have, but you can’t beat in-person interaction at a party!
